William Hassall (1844-1918)

William Hassall is my 2nd great grandfather.

William was born in about November 1844 in Fenton, Staffordshire to William and Mary (Hassall) Hassall. He was the 3rd child of 4 and the youngest of the 2 boys.

In the 1861 census, the family were living in Great Fenton, Staffordshire.
Mary Hassall is William's step mother. William's mother died in 1850 and his father married Mary Healin in 1851.

Fanny (Hassall) Jackson was William’s aunt, she married James Jackson in December 1847, he died in 1858.

William married Sarah Ann Alcock in St Peters Church, Stoke upon Trent on 15 August 1868.
The marriage record states:

Witnesses: William Hassall (probably William's father) and Maria Hassall (William's sister)

The 1871 census shows the family still living in Great Fenton. William and Sarah Ann were living with William's father and Maria (Hassall) Beardmore his youngest sister with her husband and daughter.

The census states that Sarah Ann had a total of 8 children, with 6 still living (Frances Angelina died in 1880 and Albert died in 1904)

William died on 30 June 1918, age 73 at 55 Alton Street, Crewe. The cause of death was given as cancer of the bowel and the informant was Fred Foster (son in-law).
