Mary Ann Mooney (about 1830-1918)

Mary Ann Mooney is Dermot's 2nd great grandmother. She was born about 1830 in London, Middlesex to Michael and Unknown (--?--) Mooney.

I have not been able to find much about Mary Ann before she married John Jacob Westhoff. I have various years given as her year of birth from 1825 to 1830 and despite much searching, I have not been able to find a census from 1841 or 1851 that seems to fit.

I have not expanded on the details, as they are mostly the same as in Johann Jacob Westhoff's record, which can be found here.

1855
Mary Ann Mooney married Johann Jacob Westhoff on 22 April 1855 at St John’s in Wapping, Middlesex.

1856
Birth of son John Michael Westhoff (1856-1859)

1858
Birth of son Martin Westhoff (1858-1860)

1859
Death of son John Michael Westhoff, age 3
Birth of son Joannes Augustinus (John) Westhoff (1859-1924)

1861
In the 1861 census the Westhoff family were living at 63 Portland Street, Liverpool.

1862
Birth of son Frederick William Westhoff (1862-1920)

1864
Birth of daughter Henrietta Westhoff (1864-1866)

1867
Birth of son Edward James Westhoff (1867-1921)

1869
Birth of son Henry Westhoff (1869-1920)

1871
In the 1871 census, the Westhoff family lived at Raymond Street Court House.

1881
In the 1881 census, the Westhoff family lived at 3 Hedley Street, Liverpool.

1891
In the 1891 census, the Westhoff family lived at 26 Skirving Street, Liverpool.

1901
In 1901, the family were still living at 26 Skirving Street, Liverpool.

1908
Death of husband John Jacob Westhoff, age 76

1911
Still at 26 Skirving Street, Liverpool. The census is signed by Mary using her mark and also shows that she had 7 children (3 died, 4 living)
  • Mary Westhoff - age 86, born in London (widow)
  • Frederick Westhoff - age 49, dock labourer, born in Liverpool, Lancashire
1918

Baptism: Mary Horris (1874-1910)

Mary Horris is Dermot's great grandmother, she was born on 4 January 1874 and baptised on 10 January 1874 in St. Anthony's, Liverpool.

Although a little difficult to read, the record shows both the date of birth and baptism and also gives Mary's mother's maiden name as Doyle.

Her godmother is given as Maria Mannion, I have not been able to find out who she was, but possibly a neighbour or friend.

Joseph Horris (1838-1874) married Mary Doyle (1847-1885)
their daughter Mary Horris (1874-1885) married Edward Westhoff (1867-1921)

Baptism: Mary Elizabeth Hemmings (1876-1958)

Mary Elizabeth Hemmings was my 2nd great aunt. She was baptised on 7 January 1877 in St Paul's Church, Crewe, Cheshire.

Unfortunately, the record does not give us a lot of information. It does confirm that her parents were Abraham and Fanny and that Abraham was a labourer and they lived in Crewe.
