Elizabeth Baddaley (1845-1914)


Elizabeth Baddaley (1845-1914) is my 2nd great grandmother. She was born on 31 January 1845 in Burslem, Staffordshire to Peter and Mary (Fell) Baddaley.

I am descended through:
  • her daughter, Drucilla Hudson (1877-1936) who married Rupert John Hassall (1878-1942)
  • their daughter, Freda Hassall (1909-1974) who married William Wain (1909-1957)
  • their son, John Stanton Wain who married Sheila Hooley
  • Judith (Wain) Westhoff


March 1851 
Living at Hot Lane, Sneyd, Staffordshire with her father Peter Baddaley and her mother Mary. Her father's occupation is given as potter flat presser and her mother as a straw bonnet maker.

April 1861
Still living at the same address, with her mother and father and also her brother Peter, sisters Lucy and Mary and her grandmother Elizabeth Baddaley, listed as widow.

April 1868
Elizabeth married John Hudson on 19 April 1868 in Bethesda Chapel, Hanley, Staffordshire.

Living at 43 Denbigh Street, Shelton, Staffordshire with her husband John and 2 daughters Elizabeth and Hannah. John's occupation is given as iron moulder and Elizabeth's as paintress.

August 1871
Death of daughter Hannah - age < 1 

May 1873
Birth of daughter Mary Ann (1873-1949)

1874
Death of father Peter Baddaley - age 57

November 1875
Birth of son George Henry (1875-1877)

January 1877
Death of son George Henry - age 1 

June 1877
Birth of daughter Drucilla (1877-1936)

January 1880
Birth of daughter Eliza (1880-1912)

April 1881

The family are now living at 56 Cobridge Road, Hanley, Staffordshire.
John's occupation is iron moulder and Elizabeth is still a paintress. They have four daughters at home, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Drucilla and Eliza.

April 1891
The family have moved again and are now living at 7 High Street, Fenton, Staffordshire. John's occupation is still iron moulder. Their four daughters are still at home, Elizabeth, Mary Ann, Drucilla and Eliza, also present is Thomas Hulme, listed as nephew, he is the son of Ralph and Elizabeth (Hudson) Hulme, John's older sister.

1900
Death of mother Mary (Fell) Baddaley - age 83

March 1901
John and Elizabeth remained in the same house, 7 High Street, Fenton, but now all their children have left home.

April 1911
John and Elizabeth had moved to Park Farm, Fenton.

On the census form, Elizabeth states that she had 6 children, 4 still living and 2 died (Hannah and George Henry).

April 1914
Elizabeth died on 9 April 1914, age 69 in Fenton, Staffordshire.
