I thought it would be interesting to look at some of the ancestors who appear on the birthday list.
Rebecca Goodwin is my 4th great aunt. Jonathan and Ann (Dutton) Goodwin were her parents and are my 4th great grandparents.
She was born on 9 October 1819 in Congleton, Cheshire and was baptised on 14 November 1819 in Mill Street Chapel, Congleton.
In 1841, she was living with her parents Jonathan and Ann and her younger sister Martha in George Street, Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire.
In 1851, she was living in Commercial Road, Macclesfield, Cheshire, with her father, now a widower, her younger sister Ellen and her older sister Sarah Brownsword (widow) and nephew William Brownsword and niece Ann Brownsword. Also in the house was Mary Emma Green, a servant.
She moved again and by 1861 was living at 175 Park Lane, Macclesfield with her father and niece Ann Brownsword.
In 1868, Rebecca married John Gray a widower originally from Hertfordshire.
The 1871 census shows Rebecca visiting her nephew Thomas who was living with his daughters Annie and Martha at Barton Street, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, also in the same household was Ann Goodwin, Rebecca's niece.
1881 and Rebecca and husband John are living at 187 Newton Street, Macclesfield. By 1891 they had moved and were living with husband John's daughter Elizabeth, her husband Alfred and their 3 sons, Alfred, John and Frederick. They also had a domestic servant Emma Needham.
Rebecca died in February 1892 and she was buried in Macclesfield Cemetery on 1 March 1892.
The grave also contains the following:
- Thomas Goodwin buried 8 December 1879, Rebecca's brother
- John Gray buried 18 May 1893, Rebecca's husband
- Ann G Brownsword buried 9 February 1929, Rebecca's niece
