Baptism: Elizabeth Taylor (1849-1857)

On this day, 9 December 1849, which was a Sunday, Elizabeth Taylor was baptised in St Michael's Church, Macclesfield, Cheshire.

Elizabeth is my 1st cousin, 3 times removed. John and Ellen (Millward) Meakin are Elizabeth's grandparents and my 3rd great grandparents.

The record shows that George and Mary (Meakin) Taylor lived in Sutton. Her father George was a cordwainer.

A cordwainer is a shoemaker who makes new shoes from new leather. The cordwainer's trade can be contrasted with the cobbler's trade, according to a tradition in Britain that restricted cobblers to repairing shoes.
