John Mart is my 3rd great grandfather and I am descended through:

•  his daughter Mary Ann Hannah Mart (1856-1934) who married John Herbert Taylor (1857-1925)
• their daughter Bertha Taylor (1885-1925) who married William Wain (1877-1963)
• their son William Wain (1909-1957) who married Freda Hassall (1909-1974)
• their son John Stanton Wain who married Sheila Hooley
• Judith Yvonne (Wain) Westhoff

John was born to William and Sarah (Lees) Mart in Alsop en le Dale and was baptised on 18 February

1809 – Age 11

Death of father William Mart - age 59

1830 – Age 32

Death of mother Sarah (Lees) Mart - age 66

Living at Manor House, Alsop en le Dale with brother George and sisters Elizabeth and Hannah. Also in the household are Josiah Trueman (John's nephew, son of John and Sally (Mart) (John's sister) and Elizabeth Evans (relationship to John not known)

John married Hannah Woolley in Alsop en le Dale.

Hannah Woolley, spinster, servant, residing in Alsop en le Dale. Father: Joseph Woolley, schoolmaster

Witnesses: William Critchlow and Mary Critchlow (relationship to couple not known)

Living at Alsop en le Dale with wife Hannah and sister Hannah. Also in the household, Bennet Hicton (agricultural labourer), Ann Danson (house servant), Thomas Welch (agricultural labourer) and Michael Welch (agricultural labourer) all recorded as servants.

The census also states that John was a farmer of 86 acres employing 3 labourers.

John died on 17 May 1876 age 78 and he was buried on 20 May at St Michael & All Angels, Alsop en le Dale, Derbyshire
