Hannah Mellor (1819-1889)

Hannah Mellor (1819-1889) is my 3rd great grandmother.

I am descended through:

*      her son, Isaac Wain (1850-1932) who married Mary Sigley (1849-1890)

*      his son, William Wain (1877-1963) who married Bertha Taylor (1885-1925)

*      their son, William Wain (1909-1957) who married Freda Hassall (1909-1974)

*      their son, John Stanton Wain who married Sheila Hooley

*      Judith Yvonne Wain

June 1841

I have not been able to find the 1841 census for Hannah. I thought that she might have some siblings, so tried to find them. In all the census records, it is clearly given that she was born in Hartington, so I tried searching for others who gave Hartington as their birthplace. There are a few possibilities, but so far, they do not seem to match.

14 December 1846

Hannah married Isaac Wain at St Peter, Alstonefield, Staffordshire

Isaac Wain, age 21, bachelor, silk weaver, living in Alstonefield. Father: Michael Wain, farmer

Hannah Mellor, age 21, spinster, living in Alstonefield. Father: William Mellor, labourer

Witnesses: Jed Woods and Joseph Brindley (relationship to the couple not known)

I have been looking into the witnesses, as I thought they may be related in some way.

Jedediah Wood on 1841 and 1851 census, living in Wetton, Staffordshire, born in 1797 in Alstonefield, Staffordshire, died 1871 (address given as Turnditch). Married to Elizabeth Wadsworth, who died 1848. Looks as if he was probably a neighbour and/or friend given that he was born in Alstonefield, the same area as Isaac.

Joseph Brindley, 2 possibilites, one born in Alstonefield and another with connections to Hartington.

*      Isaac Wain, age 1, born in Hollinsclough, Staffordshire
